How it works
Income Tax uses the 2026–27 bands published by HMRC. England, Wales, and Northern Ireland share one set. Scotland uses the Scottish bands. The personal allowance is £12,570. Under Income Tax Act 2007 section 35, it falls by half of any adjusted net income over £100,000, and a remainder that is not a whole pound is rounded up. It is zero from £125,140.
The salary is treated as adjusted net income. Pension contributions, Gift Aid, benefits, and the marriage allowance are not deducted. Savings and dividends are not included.
Employee National Insurance uses the 2026–27 Class 1 thresholds: £242 and £967 a week, or £1,048 and £4,189 a month. The rate is 8% between those points and 2% above the upper limit. Each payday is the annual salary divided by 52 or 12, rounded to the nearest penny, with an exact halfpenny rounded down. A week-53 year is not modeled. Employer National Insurance at 15% above the secondary threshold is shown and is not taken off the employee.
