How it works
A fraction a/b is an integer over a positive integer. Addition is (ad + bc) / bd. Subtraction changes the sign of the second numerator. Multiplication is ac/bd. Division by c/d multiplies by d/c.
The result is reduced by the Euclidean algorithm, the greatest common divisor of the numerator and the denominator. A mixed number is the same value written as a whole number plus a proper fraction.
